Are prescription medications a problem in Michigan?

There are more and more young teens who are getting accustomed to popping pills without a single thought about how it is going to harm them in the long run. More and more medications and prescription drugs are easily available to them over the counter and this is increasing their dependence on them. The most common of drugs is the usage of drugs such as Vicodin and Oxycontin. These two drugs have increasingly begun to be misused and very soon they become a habit with the person.

The reliance on drug increases as one gets habituated to use them. Most of the teens who have been interviewed after they have come out of rehab have all said that they started using these drugs as prescription drugs and then there was no looking back for them. Prescription painkillers are pretty common for usage when you injure yourself in sports or through a fall and then there is no looking back.

Once these teens are addicted to them, they will do anything to get them. They will go to any lengths, and therein they get entrapped in the web of lies, deceit and even crime and sex. The prescription drug addiction data shows that it has increased to many a fold and some teens become so desperate to get their daily dose that they call up the pharmacy from different numbers claiming to be different people.

There are some drugs that raise the pharmacist’s suspicion right away. Whereas, there are also those drugs that do not raise a high level of suspicion.  There are several doctors who need to keep their notepads under lock and key as several times they have discovered them to be stolen or even photocopied and used.

There must be some way that pharmacists on suspicion are able to check with doctors to find out whether they really have ordered these drugs. If a teen use these measures to get the prescription drug then that show that their dependency on it is manifold, and they will go to any length to get them.

Prescription drugs are extremely helpful when they are prescribed for the right reasons, but if you tend to continue using them without any reason this is the most harmful thing to do to yourself.

Drug abuse of prescription drugs is a real concern. Sometimes these drugs are even sold out on the streets in the guise of drugs.

Prescription medications are a major teen problem in Michigan

Teenage years are a difficult time to get past and if one does not have the right family and friend support and one is influenced by a bad set of friends, and with mounting peer pressure, it becomes easy to reach out for prescription drugs.

Recent surveys and research that has been conducted have come up with the alarming statistics that more and more teens in the Michigan state are getting drawn to prescription drugs.  When teens fall prey to the use of these prescription drugs, they resort to behavioral patterns that are not normal and are detrimental to their health.  They then resort to a lot of sexual activity, gambling, and indulge in harmful anti social activities too.

The onus lays on the doctors and nurses to educate their teen patients about the harmful effects of these drugs if they are misused after the specified period of time.  Also, they should let the parents know of the harmful effects and also keeping a watch if they are being misused.  They must let the parents know of what signs they must watch out for to find out if their teen is getting addicted.

Studies that have been conducted in the state of Michigan have pointed out that girls are more likely to be addicted to prescription drugs than boys.

Teens have a lot of pressures to deal with, and if they don’t get the necessary family support might find them easily drawn into the web of prescription drug abuse.
