There are a number of drugs that are commonly used in Michigan. The most popular ones are cocaine, marijuana and heroin, although other drugs go through phases of popularity at specific points in time for a whole variety of reasons.

Heroin has the most variability of the popular drugs within the state. Usage varies a lot depending on a number of factors, including the geographical location and how widely available it is at the precise moment in time, since its availability can vary significantly. Areas with a dense population have the most heroin users, and it is improved from South America as well as Mexico and Africa.

Cocaine has similar usage in relationship to geographical location to heroin, with it having the highest usage in the most highly populated areas. Unlike heroin however, its purity has been relatively constant for a good number of years now. Heroin’s purity has increased a great deal in recent years, and along with this, its cost has fallen significantly (with cocaine’s cost staying relatively constant as well).

Meth is another commonly used drug in Michigan. Unlike with most other drugs however, it is not imported, and instead is manufactured in mostly rural areas of the state. The central and western areas have the highest levels of meth usage within the state.

Additionally, so called club drugs have gained a significant rise in popularity recently. MDMA is the most used club drug, and GBH and ketamine have also seen substantial increases in usage statistics. Young people (young adults and even children) are the most frequently users of club drugs, and the rise in popularity has coincided with the rise in the popularity of ‘rave’ culture within these age groups. It is likely that the usage of these drugs will only rise even more, with such culture becoming more and more popular with young people.

The most used drug in the state by far however is marijuana, and its usage is constant throughout all areas of the state. The marijuana in Michigan has mostly been imported over from Mexico.
