The Price of Drug Crimes in Michigan

In the late 1990′s and then again in 2004, CBS’s popular news reporting show 60 Minutes covered the consequences of doing drugs in the state of Michigan. As one of the states with the harshest mandatory sentencing for drug crimes, this is one of the worst states to get busted for drug possession, abuse, or for selling drugs.
Many juveniles are spending life sentences in high security prisons because they were busted with drugs or selling drugs. Many of them were locked up for life on their very first offense, and that included those who had never been accused or convicted of any other crime previously.
For many around the country, the idea of locking a young child up for the rest of their life for experimenting with drugs and getting caught one time is absolutely ludicrous. Yet, it is happening in many states, including Michigan, as a direct result of mandatory sentencing laws.
This means the price of abusing drugs in Michigan is quite high. It goes beyond just wrecking relationships with family members, friends, and lovers that you really love. It even goes beyond ruining your own future and putting your physical health (and even your life!) in danger. If you are caught abusing drugs in any way in Michigan you could find yourself going through detox behind bars, rather than in the comfortable surroundings of a rehab center.
For those who are convicted of drug crimes in Michigan and locked away for long periods of time or even for life, the awakening of a clear mind sets in behind bars and there is nothing but shock and regret to be experienced. The drugs simply aren’t worth the heavy cost that they carry with them. Unfortunately, many people do not come out of that drug haze and realize this fact before it is too late.
Due to the heavy mandatory sentencing for drug crimes in Michigan, many addicts come to rehab with legal problems on top of all the usual problems an addict must face.
