Teen Drinking and Addiction

Alcoholism among teens is a real problem; the treatment being even more challenging, since it is related to young kids. Many seem to be in denial about their vices, especially those relating to alcohol abuse. According to reports, teens who begin drinking prior to the age of 15 are much more prone to become addicted than those beginning at a later age. However, there are exceptions! The lack of self confidence is one reason why teens begin drinking. These young individuals want to feel as if they belong, so they follow their friends, leading to the consumption and abuse of alcohol.

Teen Drinking and Addiction Teen Drinking and AddictionAlthough a lot of drinking begins during high school years, it seems to escalate in college, where binge drinking is popular. Here, many students make good grades and study all week, only to practice binge drinking on weekends. It is very difficult to detect and even more difficult to treat. This is why the problem sometimes skyrockets, leading to a disastrous end result.

These young individuals will not have a successful cure unless they seek treatment themselves. They must take responsibility for their addiction problems and be accountable for their actions. Blaming others will not lead to a successful result. This is why it is important for each and every addict and/ or abuser to be devoted and committed to a treatment plan and be serious in achieving a cure.

Treatment programs are quite different for teens, as compared to adults, due to the age factor. Teens may feel quite comfortable with self help groups. Another popular type of treatment is musical therapy. Since teens can often get wrapped up in music, this can be a successful treatment and outlet for these young individuals. More expensive measures in relation to teen alcohol abuse treatment are rehabilitation ranches or centers, and sober high schools, where the teen are forced to relocate for a limited period of time. It is the decision of the teens and their parents as to the treatment that is chosen.

All in all, every abuser of alcohol is different. What works for one, may not work for another. This is why it is good to seek a professional medical physician who can evaluate the teen and recommend the beat alternatives and/ or methods of treatment.
