Since Michigan is near the Canadian border, drugs seem to be a bigger problem than in other locations that are farther from the border. Smuggling drugs across the border is an activity that has not been curtailed, although many attempts to do so have occurred. Because of this drug activity, Michigan has many rehab centers. The residents in this state are also prone to alcohol abuse in addition to heavy drug use, due to its many party scenes.

Drugs and alcohol abuse is usually an excuse for another problem deep within the addict. Much of the time, a person who has been in rehab and completely overcomes his/her addiction, returns to a substance abuse later on.  This relapse can be a different type of addiction completely. For example, a heroin addict might return to normalcy only to become addicted to gambling. The reason for this is that the addicted individual may be avoiding situations, uncomfortable feelings, as well as just negative and unpleasant things in general. Since Michigan houses many party scenes on its Great Lakes, as well as its close proximity to Canada, it is a perfect state to house many abuse related problems and/ or issues.

Michigan has many well staffed rehab centers that have skilled and trained medical personnel to help in the “war against addiction”, whether it is drugs or alcohol. This state prides itself in 3 main types of treatment centers such as follows;

1.    In – Patient Centers
These treatment centers will carefully assess an individual and treat the addiction problems in the most efficient and reliable way. For therapy and counselling to drug withdrawal methods, an individual will experience the best method for the cure of his/her addiction issues. This treatment may take anywhere from 30 days to 6 months, depending on the extent of the addiction.

2.    Out – Patient Centers
Out – patient treatment centers are directed to those individuals who wish to remain at home and at work while slowly detoxing from their drug or alcohol problems. This is usually a daily regimen of visiting the center for evaluation or dose therapy.

3.    Long Term Residential facilities
This type of facility is geared more to those addicts, either drug or alcohol, that are severe and need long term care.

Michigan has all 3 types of treatment plans and/ or facilities. However, it is up to the patient and the physicians in charge as to the type of treatment program that should be implemented. Whichever one is selected, the state of Michigan is focused upon helping its residents become strong independent individuals, due to its highly trained abuse treatment centers.
