Michigan’s Tolerance to Marijuana
Last Updated on Monday, 24 January 2011 11:10 Written by editor Tuesday, 25 January 2011 12:02
Michigan law enforcement seems to be a little more tolerant on marijuana users than they once were. There are a few reasons for this, one being that they feel that this natural substance is not as damaging to their residents as other illegal substances. Since it is not really addictive, and overdosing is not possible, it presents less harm than the other options that individuals choose to use to get a “high”. It poses very little threat to the productivity of individuals, at least in comparison to the abuse of other more harsh drugs. Another reason that Michigan’s law officials have “got lax” on marijuana use, is that when aggressively attacking individual marijuana users, the court system gets really “backed up”, and the taxpayers’ monies are used for this instead of issues that are more of a detriment and/ or harm to American society.
However, one drawback for “turning an eye” on the marijuana scene is that this drug is thought to be a “gateway” drug to other more intense and/ or addictive illegal substances. Although, there are some users of marijuana who never progress to stronger substances, the regular practice of “marijuana smoking” does quite frequently lead users to the street drug scene. Here, many tend to be enticed to try other illicit substances. So, every time that this occurs, the Michigan population is regressing.
The main question pertains to whether or not it is more beneficial to be lenient on personal marijuana use or not. Currently, the answer and/ or solution to this problem are that leniency saves the state of Michigan more money than trouble. However, as the use of marijuana is continued to be condoned by state officials, other addictive drug use may drastically increase; however, only time will tell!
Many people want to know why Michigan has so much drug activity. The answer is quite simple; its proximity to the international border of Canada, as well as its accessibility to railways, highways, airways, and waterways. It is the perfect location to smuggle just about any type of illicit substance into its borders. Although the Michigan government, along with the United States federal authorities, work hand in hand to combat this trafficking, it still seems to be an uncontrollable situation. At times, the drug problems seem to be decreasing, when other times they seem to be increasing. This “up and down” scenario is such a “seesaw” situation that it has been keeping both state and federal drug teams in chaos for years on end. However, until other strategies are put into action, Michigan will continue to be lenient toward the individual and/ or personal use of marijuana.

Meth Labs in Michigan
Last Updated on Monday, 17 January 2011 12:36 Written by editor Tuesday, 18 January 2011 12:05
Methamphetamine, better known as “Meth”, is a pungent drug with a vigorous impact on the nervous system and mind of an individual. Since much “meth” is processed in individual kitchens, referred to as “meth labs”, it has become a popular drug, not only in Michigan but all over the United States. Individuals feel that since they are cooking this mixture on their stoves and using household and other legal ingredients, that it is legal. They think that they will not get caught, since they are in the privacy of their home. However, the smell gives it away and can very often be detected from outside the house, especially if large amounts are cooked. The officials in Michigan are really tired of seeing individuals become addicted to “meth” and are committed to “winning the war” with this dangerous substance. They have implemented several methods in which to “crack down” on the use of methamphetamine, as follows;
- Preventive measures
One of the most successful ways that the state of Michigan is preventing “meth” is through educating its residents. They feel that these programs should begin early in life, so grade school aged youngsters are being taught the dangers of “meth” and what harm can come from its use. Although, it cannot be seen as to the total impact of these programs, statistics do show that the use of methamphetamine has decreased significantly. Another preventive method is through the “Meth Watch” program. This plan educates store employees as to suspiciously large purchases of home and yard products that are commonly used to make “meth”. These employees are trained to report such actions to their supervisors, who report to the store managers. These mangers then call law enforcement to watch these customers closely to see if in fact that they are purchasing these items for the production of “meth”.
- Treatments
Treatments for “meth” can vary from in- patient to out-patient programs, depending upon the severity of the addiction. Many addicts who have experienced a “long term” use with methamphetamine will need in- patient rehab in order to completely lick their cravings. However, there are always those strong – willed users that can detox as out- patients, as well as those few addicts that can go off “cold turkey”. The treatments, however, are maximized by counseling sessions and support groups.
Michigan’s officials are devoted to the future elimination of “meth” within their state, and they are on their way to accomplishing this!
