Michigan is a state that has an easy access for drug trafficking. Waterways, roads, as well as air travel contribute to its easy transport across international borders between the United States and Canada. Michigan is busy combating its rape drug issue. This seems to be a big problem, and one that has taken precedence over all other drug issues, at least for the moment! Since drugs are odorless, tasteless, and colorless it makes it easy for individuals to dose others without any suspicion. A quick slip into a beverage at a club or party, and “Wham” the job is done. This is why it is very important to keep your drink with you at all times. Since Michigan has an open gateway pertaining to the Great Lakes, it makes this state more susceptible to drug crimes, due to the amount of people traveling to and from this area. Michigan has put new boundaries on the “rape drug” to attempt to curtail its use. To posses this type of drug, demonstrates intent to deliver, which Michigan has marked as a felony. A sentence of 7 years for delivery intent can be imposed, with a 2 year sentence for only possessing the drug. Even when taking it yourself, it is a misdemeanor. It is predicted that these stiffer penalties will help to greatly reduce the “rape drug” in the state of Michigan.
It has been reported over and over again in cases about rapes, when this drug is used, that the victim has no memory of the incident, from the time that the drug was ingested, until the point of recovery. This makes it doubly hard to find the individuals who are responsible for committing these crimes. With no way of identifying them, the offender very often is not caught, leaving him/her free to run the streets and prey on other individuals. This sex offender can have many crimes under his/her belt before actually being caught. This is what makes it so tough to combat! However, Michigan is fighting back so that its citizens can be safe.

Michigan has an avid drug scene, due to its location. This state is accessible by road, water, and air which make it easy for dealers to commute in and out of its borders. Its close proximity to Canada makes it a perfect place to find drugs that are not only popular in the United States, but also in Canada.
There are different types of drug abusers; some for recreational /party use, while others for relief of pain. The so called “party animals” buy drugs off of the street or steal them, whereas those abusers who are prescribed drugs by a physician abuse them by not taking them as prescribed or selling their unused meds. Many individuals are making “cocktails” by mixing drugs together, some even up to 9 different meds, which have proven to be fatal. Whatever the case, the end results are very much the same; an addiction problem, often leading to death!
The types of drugs that are popular for abusers, within the state of Michigan, may include some of the following:

• Vicodin
• Marijuana
• Heroin
Of course, there are others that are used; however the above seem to be the most popular in Michigan with users today.
