Addiction Can lead From Riches to Rags
Last Updated on Monday, 29 March 2010 03:10 Written by editor Tuesday, 30 March 2010 12:05
Michigan seems to be a drug hot spot of America, due to its accessibility for transports. From waterways provided by the great lakes to interstate highways, drugs can be carried in and out of the state. Alcohol, as well as drugs, is an ongoing issue since it can be consumed legally. Whichever the substance, addiction, it can be a life threatening habit. This is one reason that the citizens of Michigan must use restraint when it comes to the experimentation of new and illicit drugs and/ or alcohol related behavior.
Knowing these facts did not stop Miranda, a 35 year old executive, who was born and raised in Michigan and knew all of the statistics related to the drug and alcohol substance addiction problems. She was under the impression that a little partying with samplings of drugs, or a few drinks a day would not lead to addiction. Her sentiments were that addiction only happened to weak individuals, and she was definitely not weak! “I can stop whenever I want”, said Miranda, however this did not happen! The feeling that addiction will not happen to you, is a myth. It can take over a person’s life quickly, without warning or notice. A substance addictive problem does not discriminate. This is one reason why it is so threatening, since it can consume one’s life before he/she is even aware of its importance. Once this occurs, either the individual must seek help or suffer the consequences. Miranda knew this, however she was in denial exhibiting the emotions and unrealistic behavior that many addicts so possess.
There was always a supply of marijuana and Crystal meth when needed; she spent a lot of weekends and holidays on Lake Erie, where she could easily buy a batch of meth. Miranda began having problems at work, due to her absences and late arrivals on the job. She blamed everyone but herself for these mishaps; traffic, alarm not ringing, car not starting, etc. Yes, Miranda was in complete denial, and still is. She has lost her job, due to her inefficient work and inappropriate behavior, along with drug violations that have given her a misdemeanor record, but she is still confident that these actions are within a normal realm. What will it take to save Miranda from these poison substances? From a high powered executive, to a welfare recipient, Miranda has not yet accepted her problem. And until her denial stage is over, there is really nothing that anyone can do. Rehab must be her idea.
The state of Michigan is well equipped to treating all types of substance abuse problems, from drugs to alcohol, however the decision for treatment must be that of the addicted individual. All we can hope for is that Miranda does not wait too long for help, since she has already lost so much, however the choice must be hers!

Get Rid of Addiction Once and Forever- Michigan Rehabilitation centers
Last Updated on Tuesday, 23 March 2010 04:01 Written by editor Thursday, 25 March 2010 12:10
I can imagine how difficult and cumbersome is to decide where to go; which place to go; when to go for rehabilitation for an addict. It is rather more difficult to convince an addict to go for treatment. It seems frightening for addicts to imagine about rehabilitation centers. They are also scared of the activities and amount of time they have to spend in these places. This is definitely an outcome of the addiction which makes them so miserable that they wouldn’t be able to decide it on time to re-establish themselves in the society. But it is a bitter tablet that they would have to take to revitalize their bodies.
Firstly, you should know the available facilities in and around your town. Then decide which facility suites you the most. You should study the options; these facilities are offering and decide the best suitable place for you. Peace of mind can bring long term rehabilitation results and moreover, you can go there; consult these people again and again to remind you all the activities in the center. Mostly, these centers offer inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. If there is any emergency; they can manage it properly as well. Long and short term revitalization plans are also among the options.
You will have to choose which is best suitable for you. If you have certain responsibilities such as kids or any other work commitments then short term rehab programs are suitable for you. But, it is recommended that short term rehab programs have less probabilities of success as compared to long term rehab programs.
If you are facing teenager rehabilitation challenges then there are also suitable places around in almost every town. But, you have to book a place well in advance because of shortage of beds in many places.
In a nutshell, I may say that drug addiction is a menace and it is extremely challenging to convince an addict for rehabilitation. There are certain movies depicting very wrong images of these rehabilitation centers. It creates too many doubts in the mind of addicts about these centers. Seminars should be organized on local as well as national levels to motivate addicts for these rehab centers. This can make the jobs of working in these rehab centers much easier.

Life Of An Addict – Jons Story
Last Updated on Wednesday, 10 March 2010 12:47 Written by editor Wednesday, 10 March 2010 12:36
Looking across the table at this pitiful being, it is almost impossible to believe that he is the man he says he was.
Unwashed, unshaven dressed in rags with a vacant look in his eyes Jon is not special. Nor is his story unique or more tragic than any other homeless person found walking our city streets today.
Jon’s story is a message to all of us caught up in our hectic lives unable to prioritize, organize and resolve those escalating debts, domestic troubles or stressful workloads. Jon is an addict.
Jon had a wife, Joy, and two children baby Kate who was four months old and son Jon five.
He had a job and by all accounts not just any job. He was a senior executive for a major marketing firm here in New York’s Big Apple.
After graduating from the University of Michigan with honors, Jon was cherry picked by his firm and his future looked swell.
Childhood sweetheart Joy would be soon after become his loving wife and their first child Jon Junior was born in 2001.
Jon had a problem though, a hidden vice that he kept from all of his friends and family- sports betting. Jon hadn’t started out as a gambler like so many others before him, just betting small on sports, but after joining a casino the habit became an addiction.
One vice lead to another, one addiction became two and Jon was on the downward spiral that so many have never returned from.
At first it was just domestic bickering after a few drinks and some small losses but soon it would become full on drunken rages and wife beating as the losses mounted up.
Of course his home life was not the only area that became affected as his career took a nosedive due to absence and poor performance.
In the fifth year of his marriage Jon hit Joy for the last time as she was secretly pregnant and nearly lost the baby.
His family was gone the next day and Jon was on his own. During this time he turned to alcohol and refusing his family and friends calls for counseling decided to carry on alone.
Without the rehabilitation he so badly needed Jon dove to new depths of despair drinking on in the morning and at work an intolerance that would get him fired in 2007.
Unable and unwilling to help himself and unwilling to keep up the payments on his house Jon became homeless in 2008.
With no savings left to his name and a gambling and alcohol problem, he sold all of his property off to the point that by the end of the year he had only the shirt on his back.
Since then Jon has been one of the many homeless people New Yorkers pass on their way to work camped in the subway on the way to Central Park.
When I interviewed him for this article one thing stood out. He had the opportunity to stop this but was unable to find the inner strength to do so. If you are reading this don’t make the same mistake.
